Drag Week legend and Street Outlaws star Jeff Lutz debuted his insane new Drag Week ride a few weeks ago at the Tri-Five Nationals in Bowling Green, KY. The 1957 Chevrolet is an immaculate machine, a full on race car dressed in a beautiful stock ’57 body that is a throwback to the early days of Pro Mod, when the class first sprang from Top Sportsman’s Quick 8 program. However, this car has a lot more power than any of those cars did although looking at it from the outside, it really does a great job of hiding the tremendous amount of horsepower it has on tap. Plus the car has the engine set way back in the chassis to really help plant those rear tires.
The engine is the same powerplant that pushed Lutz’ sleek matte black Mad Max Camaro to a blistering 6.19 average for the 2016 Drag Week competition, setting a record for the week-long event that literally demolished the old record. However, don’t think for a second that Lutz isn’t going to try to better that mark with the new car, which he has named simply “The ’57”, despite the car being noticeably less aerodynamic. You can see in this quick clip, the Jeff has the car leaving hard and straight, and we know the engine has the power to lay down huge MPH out back based on the 240 MPH average from 2016.
Look for some huge numbers from this car as Drag Week 2017 approaches. With the temps cooling off in the Northern half of the country already, the conditions should be just about perfect for another shot at the record books. Cool air, a little boost, and big tires sound like the perfect recipe for breaking records and the hearts of his competitors, but Drag Week is no easy feat. However, if anybody can get it done, it’s Jeff. He’s proven that before, and knows what it takes to get the job done.
Just gonna leave this here
