Video showing a flight through the eye of Hurricane Irma from a Tuesday morning flight on NOAA’s Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scary looking! Hurricane Irma is now a category 5 and they are currently evacuating parts of Florida after seeing the damage done to the surrounding islands such as St martin and the Bahamas! Winds are expected to reach up to 185MPH with massive floods. People are currently preparing for this storm to hit in many different ways.
To give some perspective the massive flood that just hit Houston TX (hurricane Harvey) was a category 4 and did 250x the damage as a typical category 3 hurricane would do. This hurriane about to hit Florida is 500x the damage so we expect to see massive disaster throughout Florida. We really hope that people evacuate and minimal human lives are affected by this immense storm.
The image above gives a view many will never see in person, the eye of the storm. The eye is the region of mostly calm weather found at the center of strong tropical storms and hurricanes. The center of a typhoon or Hurricane is called the eye with winds that move toward the center in counterclockwise direction in the northern hemisphere. Check out the video below to get a first person pointof view of the massive storm from above.
